On May 1, NFFTY (the
National Film Festival for Talented Youth) screened "Sparks in the Night".
NFFTY and Ben have grown up together. "Sparks in the Night" is the fifth of
Ben's films that NFFTY has screened in its four years.
We photograph Ben next to the Opera House, a tradition.

Ben enters the lobby of SIFF Cinema.

As the house fills up (and eventually almost sells out), the
cast sits together and confers.

The film screened twice at NFFTY. On Friday, the day before,
it screened in "Best of NFFTY: 2007-2010". Today, on Saturday, it screened as
part of "Centerpiece Shorts", a collection of great films, many by college film
students. “Sparks in the Night” held its own with the large and enthusiastic
audience. Jesse Harris, NFFTY's co-founder, lead an in-depth Q&A. Ben was very
poised and relaxed. At one point, someone asked how old Ben was. He answered
“Fourteen now; thirteen when I made the movie” and the audience gasped. At
another point, Jesse had to say “Does anyone have a question, not for Ben
Kadie”.

After the screening, the lobby filled. On the stairs we saw
friends from Trico Films.

In the lobby, Ben talks with the folks from
9 Finger Productions,
the creators of the amazing "Chinese Antique" (which won the audience choice
award).

After the screening, we head back.
